IEEE Accomplishments
Major accomplishments in IEEE are almost always volunteer/staff team efforts, and I’ve had the pleasure of working with many such talented IEEE teams.
While I’ve been an active IEEE volunteer for 30 years, I’m particularly proud of these team accomplishments during the past decade:
- In 2006, as Chair of the IEEE Marketing & Sales Committee and a member of the IEEE Board of Directors, I led the effort to obtain approval of a complex plan to bring the IEEE’s international sales network in-house, which is saving us millions of dollars in sales commissions.
- As IEEE Computer Society President in 2003, I introduced formal project management processes to the organization, speeding the development and deployment of new products and services to members. Also, in 2003 we launched the IEEE’s first official online-only journal, DS Online.
- In 2001, I was part of the founding team which created the IEEE Standards Association and the IEEE Information Standards Technology Organization.
- As Computer Society Vice President for Standards in 1999-2000, I oversaw the development of members of the groundbreaking family of 802.11 WiFi standards.
- In 1995-98, as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Micro magazine, I drove the revitalization of Micro’s editorial board, and refocused the magazine on practitioner-oriented content.
